Black Tie FYI

Lately I’ve been asked, “What would you wear to a wedding?” and after yapping about all the factors that come to play I realized I should just make a blog post about it! :) From black tie to casual, here’s what you need to know!

It’s wedding season and the second best part aside from watching two people seal their love, is finding the perfect guest dress! The invitation usually gives away what type of attire is expected, look out for keywords like the following.

BLACK TIE: This is the most popular dress code meaning that the evening will be a fancy one and requires you to wear a long evening gown or a below-the-knee cocktail dress with some elegant detail.

WHITE TIE: This is the most formal dress code, most likely a ball gown as in extravagant “I’m a celebrity” dress code.

CASUAL or “COCKTAIL ATTIRE”: This dress code usually means a formal jumpsuit or cocktail dress is ok. Sometimes a high-low dress or a pant suit will work.

*BEACH FORMAL or CASUAL FORMAL: This usually means a formal summer-y look. Like the dress below, something printed is fun and appropriate or maybe even a long casual dress. Anything linen is appropriate for the warmer seasons.

  • Always double check with a bridesmaid or even the bride when doubting the invite dress code. it’s always best to be over-dressed than under-dressed. (Personally, I’d stick to a long evening gown unless the dress code is strictly detailed.)

I hope this cleared up any confusion! Any questions or if you're still not sure on what to wear to an upcoming wedding, send me an email! I can send you examples! XO, KO.
